Hey guys,
Please see picture below:

InternalDiode.jpg

As you can see, I have shown in the picture of two different diode symbols. One looks like a Schottky diode, where-as the other looks just like a general purpose type. Do they mean the same, are they in actual fact both Schottky diodes internally and some people are just too lazy to put in the right symbol? Or is there a marked difference?
Sorry for not knowing this, as in the past I've rarely used MOSFET's at all. Only in repair situations.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance.
Regards,

Hi,

There are MOSFETS with the intrinsic body diode, with standard silicon type behaviour. It is relatively slow and thus decreases MOSFET performance.
To avoid this some MOSFETS have additional schottky diodes added.

Like so often: the datasheet will tell you if there is an additional schottky diode inside or not.

In my experience that right hand diode symbol means a zener
(or avalanche) diode; Schottkies I have seen with either square
or semicircular end "decorations" on the cathode bar. but never
diagonal.

So this might be an "avalanche rated" FET, with some designed
features meant to control the distribution of breakdown energy
(distributed zener plugs, rather than letting the energy find the
weakest points in the blocking junction and crowd in).
