can i connect switch connected to nuetral line to 5v microcontroller ?

Hi,,,

can i connect switch connected to nuetral line of 220 v ac source to 5v microcontroller ?
if yes how can i do that ?

regards

Hi,

Not clear what you want to achive.
Show us a sketch of your idea.

The question should not be How, but rather: Why ? It is not safe, unusual, and totally inadvisable (if not forbidden by any electrical regulation).

Hi,

I assume the AC/DC device gives isolated output..

The the previously asked question is still vaid: Why?

It makes no sense. There is no return path and thus no current flow.
Why a pushbutton?
What´s your idea with the box [??]?

I have push button already connected to neutral line .. i want to get a signal from the button to do something using mcu.

[??]box : interface circuit between the switch and mcu,, iam asking about it :)

Re: can i connect switch connected to nuetral line to 5v microcontroller ?

Hi,

You want the pushbutton at the mains side to cause a logic signal at the microcontroller input?

Then I recommend to use some device with safety isolation: Optcoupler, transformer...

The shown circuit can´t work.
You always need a reference_signal (usually called GND) for every input signal.
But here the reference is missing.

Mind: you always need at least two lines for a signal.
* One is the signal of interest
* the other is eiter the reference_for_voltage or the return_path_for_currents.

which is better?using optocoupler or transformer?
any schematic describe how can i use opto and transformer to do what i need ?

I know that :) ... thank you ^.^

Hi,

there are plenty optocoupler circuits and transformer circuits around.
Use the forum search ... this is how a forum should work.

For simply switch ON/OFF you may use a relay....maybe the best solution.

thank you :)

you mean use relay like this ?

Hi,

Yes. A straight forward solution....if this is the function you need.
