Hi,

why aren’t satellite modems from different vendors compatible with each other even when DVB-S2 is implemented? Because of different application layer protocals?

It's due to contractual reasons. The data streams are compatible, assuming the same transmission parameters are used, but firmware blocks or allows access so only the subscribed packets are available. If they were fully compatible it would be possible to receive data intended for a different user. Bear in mind there could be thousands of users sharing a single data stream so ensuring security is paramount.

Sir,

Whether different manufacturers DVB standard satellite modems interoperate(compatibility if HUB & Remote site modems are of different vender)?

What cases it interoperate and in what cases it does not work?

Many Thanks

Same answer as earlier. The data streams are technically the same. Same data format, same data rate and so on. Apart from different transmission frequencies, the data is encrypted so that only the intended recipient can make use of it. Satellite modems work both ways so the modem can transmit to the satellite to confirm it's identity (coded inside the modem) and then establish the encryption parameters to ensure security.

Consider that a downlink might be carrying thousands of confidential files and emails and broadcasting simultaneously over half a continent. Anyone in the transmission footprint would be able to receive all the data from all sources so the need to be sure only one modem passes it to the ethernet port is vital.

Thanks for Details,

Sir, I want to check with you again that If we want to replace our failed remote site DVB-S2 modem from another manufacturer due to better pricing/delivery etc and it is our carrier with configurations known and whether interoperatibity works here?

As case of DVB-S2 compalint setup boxes has standardized the scrambling algorithm (known as DVB common scrambling
algorithm, DVBCSA), algorithms used for ECM/EMM encryption are not standardized so interoperatibity is not possible.

Is case satellite reciever/Demod different manufacturers software/firmware or any processing algorithms in there satellite reciever/Demod afftects or limits interoperatibity for DVB-S2 standhard

Many Thanks
Sunil BL
