    Compatibility of DVB-S2 modems

    Hi,

why aren’t satellite modems from different vendors compatible with each other even when DVB-S2 is implemented? Because of different application layer protocals?

    Re: Compatibility of DVB-S2 modems

It's due to contractual reasons. The data streams are compatible, assuming the same transmission parameters are used, but firmware blocks or allows access so only the subscribed packets are available. If they were fully compatible it would be possible to receive data intended for a different user. Bear in mind there could be thousands of users sharing a single data stream so ensuring security is paramount.
