It's been months I'm trying to import a bitmap image
into OrCAD Layout 16.2 without success..
-1rst test: import a DXF file (converted BMP file) into OrCAD layout
problem incountered: The DXF file imports
but I only get the image countours (no fills)
How to get a filled DXF ???

-second test: I downloaded a utility called GIFtoLLB
from a company called Versa Design that converts a GIF (black/white)
image to a OrCAD Layout .LLB library readable by Layout
as a standard library with one footprint inside (the actual translated image)
problem encountered: the GIF image cannot be made
of too many information (like a GIF PCB from a magazine).
Only small GIF image work..

What I'm thinking to do is use another CAD soft
(Eagle, PADS, Protel, etc.) that do import PDF or raster files.
Then I could do an import from the CAD file format into OrCAD Layout 16..
Any working ideas tried ??

Thanks.

OrCAD 10.5 importing a Raster image to one of the pcb layer (SOLVED)

It's been a while since I tried to import raster images into one of OrCAD 10.5 layers
without success. So I kind of forgot it for many reasons..
It was by using a small DOS program called GIFTOLLB converter
made by a company called VERSA DESIGN years ago.
Well I gave it a try again some days ago and finally worked it out !!!
This program translates a GIF image to a component in a OrCAD LLB library file.
The last time I used it I had problems because my GIF files were much too big
to fit the program, and when I had smaller images that worked
OrCAD shown very big LLB component much bigger than what I wanted..
But NOT really.. GIFTOLLB created millimeter based libraries
BUT I did use mils as measure standards SO.. I thought
I was reading big X,Y inches values but they were mm !!
I just had to change my view settings to mils and BINGO !
My created part were now showing with normal inch dimensions.
So now I just created my own logos library and put them
on the silkscreen layer.
Now I can add them to my existing OrCAD pcboards easily as 'New part'.
And I can move them using Component tool button on the chosen layer (silkscreen here) .
Very Happy !!!
