Is there any simulation tool to validate embedded hardware in schematic and layout before making PCB?

Depending on which Linux distro you are using, and which peripherals are on the hardware platform in question, one option to validate at least part of the project is with the use of a virtual machine running from your computer. Other parts of the system would certainly have to be tested separately with other approaches, but you would hardly be able to do all the simulation in a single environment.
