Hello,
Is it true that the tolerance in the value of of an 8.2Meg, 0805, 1% resistor could actually vary significantly if it was coated with conformal coating?
...or even if someone put a dirty thumbprint on it?...or if it got a slight bit of dampness on it ?

How much would the value tolerance be with these effects?

Someone has made us a potential divider and the upper divider resistance is two series 8.2 Meg resistors.

Hi,

I doubt that the resistor itself varies it's value, I assume there are other slightely conductive effects, leakage currents that cause that the resistance seems to be lowered.
At higher frequencies maybe there are capacitive effects that lower the impedance, maybe just caused by the e_r of the coating material.

Flux from soldering the resistor can cause leakage. Especially if it's water based flux. With high value resistors, it's important to clean them after soldering.
