Hi all,

Im using the attached circuit to convert 220AC to 12VDC.
Sometimes when i plug it in, i can see sparks in R0 and L0. Is that normal? How could i prevent them?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi,

I assume the devices are not rated for operation on 220V AC.
But the schematic doesn´t tell us this.

You need to show device type, manufacturer, datasheet ..
.. a photo could give a clue

its just sparking from inrush current getting interrupted as the contacts make and brake repeatedly (bounce) as they come into contact.
Its normal...if you want to get rid of it, use an ntc, or a zero cross detector and switch it on at the mains zero cross.
Or try and make the input cap smaller.
Or/and use a bigger ohms series resistance
