Hello,
Which type of motor and drivers are used in Train locomotives?

Older locomotive use DC machines, sometimes with separate excitation, but newer locomotives use AC induction motors, or large Brushless DC types. Distributed power is favoured these days however.

If you are refering to Indian Railways, its Brushless AC Induction motors are used in Shatabdi and Rajadhani Trains.

Personally i've always wanted to design a Traction Drive...FWIW
