[General] ESP8266 WiFi module returns negative response

Hai... i am working with esp8266 wifi module.. every time when i send an at command it returns '-1' (minus one). whats wrong?.. pls help me out
 

Are you programming it as Arduino or NodeMCU/Lua?
Did you put your actual IP address in the sketch?
It would help to post your code.
 

don't bother using AT commands with an esp8266
use the last arduino IDE versions, and program the esp8266 completely with it
far better, more functions, you will never use at commands again !
