The Compaq CQ range have a common problem with the laptop circular power connector socket.
The socket mount is soft plastic and it allows the connector to move, so after some use, the internal short wires to the socket breakaway.
Its possible to repair the wires, I have repaired three CQ's in the past 12 months with this problem.
Go to uTube online and search for video's showing the strip down procedure.
