which Led Mtrixdriver IC i can use ?

i am building a led matrix but to drive the matrix most of the internet resource use MAX7219 which is quite expensive for me because i am planning to make a bigger matrix display ...is there any cost effective solution ??
 

What you save on LED matrix driver, will pay on uC extra pins, therefore considering you have not mentioned how bigger is the matrix, you have to calculate the cost with the total number of rows needed. The standard solution would be based on shift registers.
 

This way its most cost effective method use 74HC595
