TWACs, or other method for pulse based AMR and PLC

I need to use a high-energy pulse based system, for powerline communications.

Anyone with direct experience on such systems ?

Specifically, I need a decent circuit method for placing such a pulse on a mains power line.
Secondary is the converse - detecting reliably that a pulse has occured.
