How to read the CIS structure of CF Card?

Hi everybody:
I am desiging a interface between a microcontroller and CF card(compactflash card) .I wonder whether I can use the same program to read the CIS(Card Information Struct) of the CF cards of different manufactures (there is no OS running on the microcontroller)? Dose it matter I write a dirver to read the CIS since there is no OS ?
