LEDs used in Outdoor Digital Sign Boards

Hi - I recently got a project of designing an 'Outdoor' digital sign boards that can display color pictures etc. I know that the LEDs that are used in outdoor digital sign boards are not regular LEDs. They are very high power LEDs (or LED bulbs) that one can see even in the bright sun.

I would appreciate if anyone can provide me info on the LED's that are used in outdoor digital sign boards. Any link or any info would be helpful.

Thanks

I would think the choice of LEDs would be low on the list of problems to solve. I have been to a few factories making such panels and they all used individual LEDs.

The only difference I see is the current - higher current. You still have the color balancing problem.

The electronics to control the LEDs is the non-trivial issue.

It is not about the LED power, You can not beat the sun light with power. There are other things:
- Front plate between LED's should be special nonreflective black colour
- You should prevent reflection of sunlight from LED itself, basically they should be in the shade. There are several ways to achieve that: shaders above each LED, LED's mounted behind front plate (front plate with holes), special lenses mounted in front of LED's
- Use selected LED's. Selected by colour and intesity. This is provided by LED manufacturer.

With optimal optical design of display, LED current is well below 10mA when operating at full sun light.
