The difference between cordless and cellular phones

cordless and cellular?

I can identify the differences between cordless phone and cellular phone (all are handset?)

Can you help me? (photo addition is welcome)

Cordless phones: Usually for domestic and short distance usage (e.g. your 'home phone without wire'). DECT
Cellular phone: Handheld unit that allows you to be in touch virtually anywhere (GSM)

um... not so clear this either? :)

The cordless device replaces the cable between the handset and the base of a traditional wired telephone instrument.

I think now the technologies for Cordless and Cellular is about the same.

In cordless, you will hear something about FHSS, TDD, SST , DECT even Bluetooth phones which also applied in mobile phones. Or simply as traditional analog cordless phones 46MHz, 900MHz, 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz.

cordless........ of course, do not have "cord" attached

cellular, actaully, is came from the meaning of "cell".

A "cell" in a cellular phone system, means an area covered by a base station. And since the whole coverage area of the whole system is build with many "cells", thus we called it cellualr

Cordless operates in a limited area, according to its range. It talks to its own base which is connected via cable to the telephone line. This is the one used in many houses just to eliminate the wires from the handset. The base station is bonnected to your private telephone line and only you can make calls from your handset :)

Cellular/cell phone, an example is the GSM network. It is based on public networks and can be used anywhere provided there is coverage (radio signal) in the area. Anyone can use it who is a subscriber to the Telecomm company. The range is virtually infinite since there are so many cells and companies that offer services that you can use your phone almost anywhere, any country. There are many base stations, cells, that can service the customer in such a way as to avoid communication interruption while traveling from area covered by different cells. Here I mean, if you move from an area covered by cell A to area covered by cell B then you will not lose contact, insted, your service/connection, is transfered automatically to the next cell (B in this example) and so on while you are moving.

cordless phones transmit from the base station to the handset in fsk mode in low band width. this is a simple one-to-one network or can be compared with a simple null modem connection.

cellphones operate in higher frequencies and it employs complex switching techniques and protocols in simple words it is a many-to-many network

Whatz the basic diff btw GSM, TDMA, AND CDMA...

The GSM is the standard used in Europe for Cellular(mobile) communication and it uses the TDMA and FDMA techonolgies for making calls
CDMA is the equivalent system for GSM but in North America however this system works in a different way using what is called Walsh-Codes and gives an effiecnt results compared to GSM
Cordless phones use many stds but the most common is the DECT

cordless phone is used for very short distance with the transmitter and the receiver in same unit and it is powered by an AC power supply. it uses frequency that is entirely different from cell phone frequency

Cell phone --Transmitter station is far away and as a result the range will be high.then cell phone it has its own power supply(i mean battery and no way related to the charging unit in the transmitting unit like in cordless phone..

cell phone uses the frequency above 900 MHZ .....cell phone we have SIM ..and it is used as a unique id..whereas in cordless iti is an extension of our land /fixed line...it is identified by the land number only...

working if both is entirely different ...cell phone uses different modulation techniques other just simply transmitt and receive

well......... cordless phones doesnt form their own network,infact they are just connected through a wireless link to the base phone (PSTN network) .
As far as cell phones are concerned they form their own wireless network (like GSM,CDMA,AMPS etc), through which they are connected with each other and with other networks.........

cordless: limited distance,bandwidth,data rate.
mobile phone : good data rate, bandwidth,long distance calls.

about your question company
what is the difference between GSM, TDMA, FDMA
GSM: global system of mobile communication.
TDMA: time division multiple acsess, number of user can share the same ferquency at difirent times.
FDMA: frequencey division multiple accsess, number of user can talk at the same time with different frecuency.

GSM

Global System for Mobile Communication is nowadays the most famous communication technique in Wireless technology .

it has the advantage that if u want to change the subscriber u don't need to change the set , only u have to change the SIM - Subscriber Identity Module .

TDMA

Time Division Multiple Access technique is famous in Wireless technology because here different user can use same frequency in different time slots .

here call disconnection is the major problem.

CDMA

Code Division Multiple Access technique is famous in Wireless technology because here different user has different codes in the same spectrum of frequency at a same time .
It has the advantage of good sound quality among the above three.

basically it has the most beautiful advantage is that it seems to the other user using the same frequency but not the proper Tx or Rx as noise , that's why military wireless equipments use CDMA and Frequency hopping techniques .

If u want to change the subscriber u have to che=ange the set as the set is synchronized to particular Rake circuit (It is nowadays changing ) .Basically the CDMA handset is nothing but a RAKE receiver with an amplifier .
