Current capacity with positive and negative voltage supply

Hi,

I have a power brick that will output +/-12V @ +/-500mA. Is it correct to assume that is 500mA for the +12 as well as the -12V for a total of 1A?
Also, if the positive supply is drawing more than 500mA... will it just take what it needs from the negative portion? In other words, if my +12V supply circuit is drawing 550mA but my -12V circuit only needs 45mA will I have enough current capacity to run the +12V portion (ie. 550+45 = 595 which is less than 1A)?

yes your assumption is correct ,but +12 can supply only 500mA for 550mA the supply voltage drops
