Hi.
I am wondering what type of sensor is used in shooting trainers like this:
**broken link removed**

Two efficient infrared diodes on the front side of the sending unit produces measurable signals.
The special lightweight receiver is mounted on the weapon with simple hand tools. It receives the signal from the sending unit and transfers it to the control box.

Range is about 10 meters with precision about 1 mm.
I am pretty sure that is not a CCD or camera, but something like a position sensitive device (psd).
But psd are expensive and hard to find.
Is there a way to achieve this precision with cheaper devices like photo diodes or other?
Thanks and Regards
