How to control hardware through C language

Hi
I want to control hardware using C language. How can i eject a DVD ROM drive by using C language, how can i change rpms of fan? and similar things. Any idea, how to accomplish these task? Any book or tutorial? I need urgently.

You can use DOS Commands with C.

DVD ROM Drive is in PC or in DVD/DIVX Player or in some other device ?

Method of control : IR, RF, Wire, LAN (Internet),... ?
 

I want to access my own PC resources using C language. like how to write a code that produce a beep from speaker, eject DVD ROM drive.
