Hi

Trying to understand more on the NFC testing setup and test cases. Is there a document describing the test cases, specifications on NFC? Which body is handling such specifications?

Thanks

I see there is NFC A, B, F for the commuciation methods which is tested in the NFC forum specifications. And there is NFC tag types 1 to 4 with different data rates. How does the NFC A, B and F communciation relates to the NFC tag type? Is it that each tag type is tied to either NFC A, B or F commuication method?

Thanks

There are RFID tag types of ISO14443 TypeA and TypeB, there is Felica and there are others that also operate at the 13.56Mhz band. The NFC Forum took existing standards and added additional specifications for interoperability purposes. For backward compatibility, the NFC Forum Types 1-4 correspond to specific existing tag types or groups of tags. However, going forward, companies are free to make tags that match the Type 1-4 specification but are not based on the original proprietary tag.

  • Type 1 tags correspond to - Innovison Topaz which is an ISO 14443 Type A tag.
  • Type 2 tags correspond to MiFare Ultralight which is also an ISO 14443 Type A tag, but with a different memory layout and command set.
  • Type 3 tags correspond to Felica
  • Type 4 tags correspond to any ISO 14443 tag that is capable of operating at the ISO14443-4 level (i.e. APDU exchange) They can be Type A or Type B, some examples would be DESFire, SmartMX, Global Platform.

As for data rate, all but Type 3 will operate at 106kbps, Type 3 has a minimum of 212kbps. All MAY be negotiated to a higher data rate, some as high as 848kbps (and in some cases 2x that).
