The image of a set under a continuous function----------------continuous image
A digital image is a numeric representation (normally binary) of a two-dimensional image.

think of vector graphics -- a description of shapes with positions and sizes. this describes an image without being expressed as a grid of pixels

a continuous image would be one were you can determine the intensity at any point, not just a finite number of points.
