Hi,

I was wondering, wht does the xyz engineer 1, xyz engineer 2, xyz engineer 3... mean on company job sites? For example hardware design engineer 3.
I guess they are something to do with level of experience. But, how much exp is relevant for each? is it standardized? which one is senior xyz engineer ?

Specific examples would help, but my guess would be that they have several posts vacant for certain engineers.

I think it is the level of experience.
1= Jr.
2= mid
3= Sr.
4= Staff ...

Different companies use different names / titles. Some use E07,E08,E09 which might be derived
from the Military Rank and Grade.

Cheers

ok. thanks.
Its hardware development engineer 3.

Some Asian companies has this type of hierarchy:
Engineer 3- Junior executive
Engineer 2- executive
Engineer 1- Senior executive

Further,
Sr Eng 3->Sr Eng 2 -> Sr Eng1->executive Eng 2-> executive Eng 1-> Principal Eng 2->Principal Eng 1->Chief Eng 2->Chief Eng 1-> Vise President-> executive VP->President.

If it is something like https://www.indeed.com/m/viewjob?jk=a855d76cbbf6676f then it says "number of openings : 3".

The expression may be used differently in different countries or companies though. You can find job titles like "Hardware Development Engineer 3 at Philips Healthcare"on CVs which supports the suggestion that it relates to seniorities. Mars calls then Zones with Zone 2 being very senior and Zone 8 being lower down the company structure.
