NAND and NOR flashes in a board

Dear Sir,

Why do we find both NAND and NOR flashes in any micro controller based (Telecommunication) board.

What are the parameters to be considered while selecting memories(NAND & NOR) for Micro controller/Microprocessor based board.

Hi Thulasi,

Here are some of the key points about NAND and NOR Flash -

NOR reads slightly faster than NAND.
NAND writes significantly faster than NOR.
NAND erases much faster than NOR--4 ms vs. 5 s, respectively.
Most writes require a preceding erase operation.
NAND has smaller erase units, so fewer erases are needed.
