the connection shows connected.but when i tried to send a file ,it doesnt receive,,timed out.

is there a proper procedure to send words ? i mean i want to type "HELLO" in one computer and want to see that in other computer

You must set proper baud rate and parity bits in both systems. Settings on both PC should be similar.

GND pin of both system should be connected together.

how do i send HELLO ? do i just have to type in one computer to see on other computer ? or do i have to create a file format to send through file

i am assuming we dont need internet connection for using hyperterminal ?

Just type text in one computer and look for output at other.

Have you chosen correct com port in which you are transmitting the data? Serial communication will show its connected, even the receiver is absent.

First try sending a text. Am not sure about sending a file.

First, short pins 2 and 3 on each computer (individually), to ensure you're getting what you type on the same terminal. I dont remember, but Hyperterminal has an echo option that needs to be enabled for this. If this test works on both, connect the 2 systems with your cable and try again.

Also make sure the handshaking option is set to 'none'.
