Can anyone find varistor principle for dc motor? Thanks a lot.

A Varistor is a device that is capable of resistive conduction once a specifice voltage is reached. Its purpose would be to reduce the electrical noise that a dc motor may induce on to the power supply.

Dear Barrybear
Thanks for your explain.Does it work like a zenor diode?

varistor acts like a zener but I think its MTFB is very low.
u can use P6KEXXX series os surge suppressors for small/low power applications!

BEST!

Typical varistor application is to put them after fuse, so if voltage is over varistor's target voltage, varistor's resistance drop down and fuse blow up, so rest of circuit is saved of overvoltage. Every varistor can apsorbe certain amount of energy and after that he's blow up himself (if used fuse is too strong).

Do we have AC type of varistor?

Hello nicleo,
Varistors are voltage-dependant resistors. As resistors, they can be used in AC or DC. Just be sure to use a varistor with a voltage spec above the PEAK value of your AC line.
Best regards.
