Can anyone tell me how to design a noise filter for a photodiode circuit?

I need to design a noise filter(RC filter) for a photodiode.The photodiode used is s5972 from hamamatsu.Wat should be R and C values?

What kind of noise? What kind of signal to be picked out from it?
 

I want the dark current output of the order pA.The photodiode noise in is the sum of the thermal noise (or Johnson noise) of resistor and the shot noise resulting from the dark current and the photocurrent.
