I am dealing with a project that I need to compute the probability of failure for it. The system is made of different sub-systems. This is a digital system. I think the probability of failure of each sub-section should be related to the area occupied by that sub-system and also the activity rate of that sub-system. First of all is this correct? if so, how can I compute probability of failure based on the area and activity rate?

Or should I assume probability of failure to be an exponential function and find a way to compute landa (failure rate)? if so, how can I get landa?
