Hello ,

I have the S parameters in a pdf format as below and im using AWR microwave office ver 9.0
s parameters.png

I want to export it to AWR microwave office and convert to Y parameters.
Can anyone please help me guide this..Thank you

Re: AWR Micrwave office 9.0 help

You can find a standard S params file, and import it into AWR, then you edit the format of your S-Params, and import it to AWR.

Hi,
Thank you, I did the same however I'm getting the below error.

Problem with file format: Incorrect number of entries for first frequency point

Your S-parameter file needs to be Touchstone file format compatible to use in any CAD tool including AWR MWO...
Looks this file is for two port is it correct ?
If So, it should have only 8 entries for each frequency say for S11magnitude & angle , S21 magnitude & angle, S12 magnitude & angle and S22 magnitude & angle only....Finally you should save this two port data as *.s2p file in order to import....
In your file it contains 11 entries & hence the problem...
Also I noticed the reference termination resistance as 0.5 ohm in the header definition is that correct? usually it is referred to 50 ohm termination...

Go through the "Touchstone® File Format Specification" document for more details on S-parameter data files...

Re: AWR Micrwave office 9.0 help

Dear Manju,

I solved the above error and also that pdf file was helpful , now that I converted it to Y paramteres ,I want to find the capacitance and resistance(i.e.Cgs,Cds,Rs,Rg,Rd).
How can I do that ? any formula to find it ?

Thank you,
Ankit

Re: AWR Micrwave office 9.0 help

you can define model, then opt the model params to match the S-params to the requirements.
Or you can get model params in ADS, extract from the s-params.

Re: AWR Micrwave office 9.0 help

Im unable to understand ..how to define model ?..I want to find the above parameters for FET ATF-35143 ...In the data sheet they have given S parameters so I converted to Y parameters to find the above parameters...please guide me on this ...Thank you

**broken link removed**
This is ATF-35143 ADS model, given by Avago website. Next time you should search in web first.

Hi,

I may be less intelligent than you , but I have done my homework .I already have this data sheet which I stated in my posts however it doesnt have the data which Im looking
for i.e. Parasitic capacitance and resistance (Cgs,Cds,Rs,Rg,Rd) .

He didn't give the datasheet to you, he basically gave you a project file that can be opened in ADS environment.
By using this project file, you can obtain your parasitic elements in "model" schematic..
So, be cool.. enjoy RF Engineering..

In order to get these parameters just create a new schematic with the STATZ model (from nonlinear -> FETl)and approximately enter all the initial values then try to optimize parameters of the STATZ model to fit to the s-parameter...See STATZ model help & application for more details...

I didnt know what ADS is as Im using AWR MO though I have downloaded one now.
Thank you for the reply , there was a bit misunderstanding which is sorted now :)

have installed ADS waiting for the license key , will follow the steps shown and hopefully shall get the results :)
Thank you

I do not think ADS will solve your problem. It looks like you have the ADS project from Avago that has the model in it and it is likely that you will not be able to extract cds, cgs parameters from it. If you ask Avago, they will give you the equivalent project in MWO too. Can i ask what is the eventual goal here? Why do you want to extract these parameters?

Anyway... here is the data sheet that has those parameters listed...

https://www.farnell.com/datasheets/81646.pdf

You can enter these parameters directly in the MWO MESFET model and i would also verify the model against the S-parameters to make sure its correct.
