Which GPS???

Please keep it ON for 2 to 3 hours and keep the antenna outside the window to face a clear sky.....

your output will come automatically....

Panic!

Seriously, if you are seeing a series of <0> characters at all it means your serial link is working OK so the problem lies with setting up the GPS module. You need to tell us more about it to diagnose the problem further.

the GPS goes to sleep mode and when it is powered on takes lot of time to synchronise with the satellites and store the incoming data into its flash memory before giving it out to the user...

The GPS goes to sleep mode if
1. GPS is not used for a long time ( switched OFF for continuous 3 days and above)
2. Cold start is initiated.
3. It is cloudy weather and GPS retries to Synchronise with the satellites and clocks...

Dont worry.. there is nothing wrong in your GPS..

But the time for the data into the GPS depends on how quickly the flash memory is over written.. the time depends on modules... some takes 2 to 3 hours ... some takes less than that.. some take almost half a day.....

Do you get $ symbol followed by some text then followed by 0 0 0 ....... on your terminal window?????

Nothing wrong in your circuit, till it gets the output within few hours os power ON.....:)

Dont worry.. your GPS will work...

It will rectify but could you post the snap shot of the response of the GPS... are you seeing output in hyperterminal or any other software???

i had posted a sofware in a zip file named UNAV.. please try with that also... when you use it close all serial windows using that com port....

Yes, I get output, but output is only "<0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0><0>"
And not something else!
This output is taken from the "terminal" software and With "hyper terminal", there is no output.
Com port connection to the GPS may be wrong?

what is the baud rate?? its default 4800... how many hours did you keep it on???
did you try with UNAV foftware that i had attached in the previous link of thread.....

I too get the output as 0,0 but it gets rectified after 5 to 6 hours of switching ON..... Check the antenna connection once.....
