Ir2113 question about High Output and Low Output and High Input and Lowinput

Hi, we plan to use an Ir2113 as a gatedriver for our IGBT. We plan to make an H-bridge using IGBT for our AC motor. We plan to switch the IGBT's on and off such that our 220DC supply will become AC w/ varied frequency.

We've already seen the datasheet of IR2113, and followed the circuit that was there for gate drive applications.

Our questions are:

1. What kind of input should HIN(high input) and LIN(high input) receive?

2. Based on our research it should be a square wave/ logic signal, Is the input in the HIN(high input) and LIN(high input) have to be/can be a square wave? ex. (PWM from PIC/Function Generator)
If yes, for testing purposes is a function generator ok to use as our input before we apply our own PWM which comes from our PIC?

3. Does the input in HIN and LIN should be the same? ex: -5v to +5V

4. How would we know what would be the amount of voltage coming from HO (high output) / LO( low output) pin of IR2113 ? is it proportional to the input?

This is so that we would know if the IC is working or not...

a reference or something we can look up is appreciated.

5. lastly, a none IR2113 question related. If an IGBT is turned on, shouldnt be the voltage that is applied in its collector, go through the emitter since it becomes like a closed switch? And when it is off, there should be no voltage whatsoever going through?

1. They are logic signals
2.The input signal is a square pulse,ex pwm signal from pic or avr.
3.The input pulse are the same but Q1 must be complement of the other Q2 and not realy +5v and-5v but +5 and 0
4.The output signal is not proportional to the input signal that why we use gate drivers
5.Yes you are right if the gate is fully on (saturated)the collector current is equal emitter current and if their is no conduction then their wont be flow of current.

with regards to answer #4. is the output a squarewave signal just like our input?
if so, this square wave will be the one entering the gate terminal of the transistor?

If you are using pwm signal your output will be a square wave with variable duty cycles,

Another question. With regards to the input in LIN and HIN.

Are you saying our input in HIN should be 0V to +5V? if so what would be our input in LIN? im sort of confused by that.

The Lo in and Hi in are out of phase with each other,eg when Lo in is High(logic 1)then Hi in is low (logic 0) and vise-vasa.
 
So if my understanding is correct, with this set up, the IGBT w/ HO input would be on and the other IGBT w/ LO input would be off right?
 

Yes, that's right and try to find some book and learn the swiching of a power inverter.
