Energy dissipation through a resistor.

I know the formula for the energy dissipation through a resistor which is
I^2 R.

My question is this:

Is this the energy dissipated in unit time or some other time interval?
 

The energy in joules equal the power (watts) (I^2 R) x time period(J = W x s)
 

I can't understand your answer. My question is if that is the energy that is dissipated in unit time.

If I put time period= 1s then I get the answer.
 

I^2 R isn't energy, it's power = Energy/Time

If I = 10A and R= 10Ω

then I^2 R = 1000Watts = 1000 Joule/s

==> in 0.1" dissipate 100 Joule, in 1" dissipate 1000 Joule ....
