8051 micro controller and relay problem

hi im currently doin a project and need to know how to control 12 coils for the motor im building. I have an 8051 micro controller and was told i need a relay to control the coils. i dont know to much about this, so any help on how to do it would be great. pictures, diagrams would be brilliant. if you need any more information let me know. thanks in advance for your help
 

What microcontroller are you using? and control 12 coil ---> voltage?
 

would 8051 micro controller be right, not very upto date on this. voltage will be 12v
