Can anyone expln selection & calculation of Heat sinks for Rectification using IGBT

Please can anyone explain the following two points,
1) Regarding selection & calculation of Aluminium Heatsinks which are used for mounting IGBTs on them, while Converting or Inverting operation.

2) The sequence of operation of the IGBTs in a three phase bridge circuit used for AC to DC conversion process.

I will thankful if explained with an example.

Application notes from various IGBT vendors (like International Rectifier) generally cover this kind of thing better than what could be written here off the top of my head.
