Hi. I have a 24V DC line and on top of the DC line I have a signal (0 and 5V DC). I now need to trigger from the signal. So basically I want to "ignore" the 24V DC. Can I do this with the NE555. Must my trigger be clamped to 24V DC so that it can trigger from my signal??? Or how must I connect this? (I need my output pulse period to be 0.1042ms- but that I can easily work out)

Hi,

What is the duty cycle or duration of the +5V pulse ?
The 555 needs a low pulse to trigger, so if you used capacitive coupling
and clamped the 555 trigger input so that 24VDC = ~ 0V then that would
equal trigger level at steady 24VDC and not trigger at 5V. Depending on behaviour
required the pulse may need to be inverted.
