OSEK

I found in most of the automotive embedded systems OSEK is used.
Why do we use only OSEK in automotive systems?

How is it different from other regular RTOS?

OSEK is an API interface just like POSIX or ITRON.
It became famous because it was made by consortium of automotive industry and then reused gain by the AUTOSAR.

What makes OSEK special in automotive industry? I mean why can't we use other OS like e-cos or u-cos etc...

Any SW piece can be used in any application as long as it meets its requirement.
OSEK/VDX was created by german and french companies to have their own thing. Thats how it was promoted.
