Is it possible to measure the direction of flow of AC power (Watts). I'm not really sure if that's the correct way to ask my question, so here's an example of what I mean.
If you have a microgeneration setup, solar/wind/hydro, and it's producing more Watts than your total household appliances are using at that moment in time, is it possible to detect that power is flowing back to the grid, rather than from the grid to your house.
It obviously possible in some respect as the old mechanical style meters will spin backwards. IS it possible to monitor the Watt usage of the house and be able to differentiate between power coming in from the grid as well as excess power flowing the other direction back to the grid. Ideally I would like to use a current sense resistor/shunt via an op-amp to a micro-controller.
Thanks for any advice.
Terry.
