hi all

how can we slice the 230 v ac both the half cycles in to different parts?
using a triac we can control the voltage level by triggering at different time. but once the triac is triggered, we cannot stop it until it reaches the zero crossing. my question is that whether we can slice the half cycle in to different part? ie in the 10 ms period of one half cycle will be parted as 1 ms on 1ms off or at 4 ms after zero crossing, 1 ms will be off and again on .

is it possible?

Hi,
Can you not switch/use a MOSFET pls?
It has enough speed for the 1msec on time controllings too.

hi

can you just post a schem of the same?
any other ideas?

Hi

You need to use a zero crossing(ZC) detector and a microcontroller high resolution timer with minimum 1:16 of the input frequency (STM32@72Mhz)

Use the ZC to start the timer (Nsec count) and to toggle the TRIAC or MOSFET when timer relapse

All the best

dear bob

we are trying to slice the half cycles(+ve and - ve) in to different parts
of 230v ac supply to the load of 250 w.
so we've to switch on the control circuit many times in each cycle
the problem here is that we cannot use the triac
because once the triac is turned on, you cannot turn it off
it turns off only at the next zero crossing
i think the only way is that we can use mosfet
and i am very week in mosfet controlling
can you just suggest a mosfet which will do our work?
i would appreciate if you can post a diagram of the same
the zero crossing and MCU part can be done

thanking you

Hi,
We proposed to first for you that (MOSFET to take) at 11 May...
I think, its a "normal MOS Switch", with enough Uds for the Mains-Peaks (+ some reserve for transients & overvoltages).

A picture and thousand words.

Hi

Go to IR web site they have some application note on how to design high voltage MOSFET switch

Also serch EDN design idea section for MOSFET switch you will find an idea for MOSFET high voltage switch

All the best
