Hi,

Can someone tell me the method used to depuncture data at 1/3 rate to get a rate of 1/4. Is it simply just adding a zero into every 3 bits to order to get 4 bits or is there more to it ?

Many Thanks
Bob

yes, that should be enough, the decoder should able to correct these. Be sure to insert the zero in the exact location it was removed from.

If you are doing soft decision decoding, you can mark them as weak zeros

Thanks for that. I'm looking at the DAB spec at the moment just to see if that explains how it is done. The FIC is coded at 1/3 rate using a 1/4 rate mother code. It seems as if it drops every forth bit in order to get the required code rate...just not 100 percent sure...perhaps it uses a look up table??
