Which is better, relay near destination node or source node?

Which scenario is better, relay near destination node or source node in terms of BER.

Using BER simulation results I am getting better performance when relay is near destination.

Comments Plz!!

The relay may produce an impedance bump. The extra signal path may put an inductance in series with the line.
 

i am asking about the relay node in coopeartive MIMO network :)
