Perhaps for F84 you need to use a parallel port programmer and not ICSP .
while if the chip can be 16F84A , then ICSP with either parallel port (DB25)or serial port (DB9) could be possible

Thanks but do you have any circuit for it

Nandhu can i get the circuit there

Posting of circuits and documents which are freely available on the net is prohibited here. Do vist the site referd by "nandhu015" and download it yourself. Cheers

I use this one **broken link removed**
Tried with PIC12F475, PIC16F84A, PIC16F877 and PIC18F4550, and it worked perfectly on every one of 'em. Other than the ZIF socket, it's dirt cheap, too.

serial port pic programmer

Check this, it's the simplest programmer you will ever find.

I saw it sir. Being a first timer to PIC, perhaps it is possible, he would read the main chip number and not the suffix. he might have followed some old tutorials that mention it as 16F84, thus mentioned only that number. I want to be sure as to what chip really he owned. Hope the OP clarifies.

is this ckt is still part of the programmer???

icp2 programmer

No, you will just need it if you wished to power the PIC while normal operation from the serial port.
You can totally ignore it as I did.

PIC programmer

a simple programmer like the JDM will work fine, but its not really laptop friendly because of the lower voltages available on a laptop's serial port. also i suspect that you now want to build a programmer after doing some research/learning about the device. if this is so, then if your 'switch on an LED' circuit does not work you would not easily be able to tell where the fault lies. for this reason i would recommend rather getting a pickit so you know the programming hardware is known good. the other advantage of going this route is the it is usb rather than serial which is getting more difficult to support in recent days
