So what's next?

Clock freq. of uC is rising - breadboards as we know it would be a poor choice to prototype on now.

Communications are going wireless - all that RF again reduces the utility of the breadboard.

What is going to replace them?

One thing is for sure - now a days we all have a facility of making our own PCBs and making a SMD board is much easier than a DIP as the need to drill holes is greatly reduced, if at all (PTH/vias maybe).

However, does that mean we will all be having a hot air reflow station alongwith the ubiquitious soldering iron?

What's on the horizon for prototyping for hobbyists?
