led current regulator

Hello,

We have several linear LED current regulators which powers altogether 52 red LEDs from a 13.5V battery

The power dissipated in the LEDs is 6 Watts.
The linear regulators (their resistors and transistors dissipate 3.5W.)

All the LEDs and the regulators are on one double sided , rectangular PCB of size 8cm by 16cm..
-The LEDs are on one side and the linear regulators are on the other side.
The PCB is 1mm thick FR4, the copper layer is just normal thin copper of about 2oz.

This PCB will go in a sealed enclosure which is transparent at the front (so the LEDs can shine out).

This enclosure will sometimes be in the Arizona baking sunshine.

There is no fan to stir the air inside the enclosure – which in fact is a car light.

Do you believe this is going to run too hot?

in such case one usually use car corps as a radiator.

thankyou Dmitron,

but on a hot day the car chassis gets very hot, as you will know you can often fry an egg on a car bonnet on a hot day.

-so i doubt that sufficient cooling is available?

1) switching regulator is not a way for you?
2) If temperature of your chips stay below 100 degrees Celsium than you should not warry about it. (at 100 degrees - water in IC will boill and damage it encloser - pop corn effect)
