power supply design

i found one power supply circuit with that i have some doubts..
please clarify why Two transistors and Zener diode are used here and functions of different capacitor in this circuit

Re: Power supply design

They lower the 24V to 13.7 Volts.
The 13.7 Volts is possibly used at point A.
Also the 7805 will get less hot with 13.7V instead of 24V.

Re: Power supply design

i wanna know what is the name of the circuit.. and how u saying it outputs 13.7v(i need ur calculation) and also 7805 uses many capacitors in both input and output .. why they are used

Re: Power supply design

Do you know the voltage drop of the base-emitter of a transistor?

Why the capacitors you can find in the datasheet of the 7805.

Re: Power supply design

i know little about emitter - base voltage drop... but i dont know this circuits function it will be helpful if u explain me about whats happening in this circuit
