How to use laser with its sensor and brushless DC motor of a CD-ROM drive?

hacking cdrom motor

Hi,

I bought a few CD ROM drives and want to use the :

1. Laser and its sensor.

I will definitely put some of the lasers to use as a pointer and others will be coupled with a camera to be implemented as a rangefinder

2. Brushless DC motor

I have done a detailed writeup here https://sites.google.com/site/jongasse/inside-a-cdrom-drive-bay-the-electronics, with pictures and all and uploaded detailed pictures here as well.
