Hi

I want to design switching transformer for mc34063 (or TL494) for building low current (0.5A max) isolated dc-dc converters,Please give some information on how to design and build the transformer.

Hi,

First, you have to determine the operating frequency and the switching topology. Then, using the power requirement and other variable (core material, wire size, etc) you can determine the core size and the number of turns on primary and secondary.

Search for Dc-Dc converter by Robert Erickson in elektroda. And go to his site (I don't remember the url) at colorado state univeristy, electronic engineering dept.

tl497 application note

If you want to keep it really simple, use the TL497. You can build simple switchers with that chip, an inductor, a diode, some caps and a few resistors. Go to ti.com and dl the data sheets and application notes.
