You can deselect an instance or a metal layer by pressing Ctrl key in your keyboard and click left button of the mouse in place, where your instance is not covred by any other instance.
Or
You can deselct an instance or a metal layer by pressing Ctrl key in your keyboard and select the area in which your instance only present. If any small instances present with in that area will also deselected. You can select again the small instances by pressing Shift key and select the area inwhich
your small instances are present.

but the metal lines(thin lines width=0um ie like border lines) are overlapped so we can’t deselect it by ctrl key. If we do so the unwanted layer will be deselected.

I'm assuming you're using Cadence Virtuoso Layout Editor.

1) Select all the object + eventually the unwanted layers.
2) Go to LSW window and click on "NS" button (all layers are now set to "Not Selectable").
3) Go to the unwanted layers and RIGHT click on them (make all of them selectable).
4) Go to layout window and de-select all the unwanted objects by holding CTRL and clicking on the objects.

Done.
