Difference : 2G and 3G

Here it is mentioned that the data transfer in 3g is bit higher and it is up-to384 kbps. So my Wifi has the data transfer up-to 2mbps. Can't I assume it has 3g..

I am asking this question because one one of the mobile network service providers told me that 2g is Broadband and 3g is different..lolzz.. Was that the answer totally insane?? Please advice me regarding ma query..
