adc reference voltage

Hello!

How to use reference voltage in Analog to Digital convertion in PIC16F877? And when I use 10 bit resolution what reference voltage do I need and if I use 8 bit resolution what also reference voltage do I need?

Thank you.

As I remember reference voltage is used to indicate the maximum voltage that will be used in conversion or your input voltage does not exceed this value. This voltage is required because it indicates your voltage resolution. Because PIC divides this voltage to resolution that is selected from user. So you must adjust this voltage value respect to your input voltage. Good luck
