I would like to know is there universal method to interface with different types and brand of RAM? (SDRAM, flash RAM... from different manufactrurer)

I am designing my device in VHDL.

interfacing RAMs

all of them have the same bus definitions
only the data width changes....
i still dont understand wat do u mean by universal method......

What i tried to do is design a module to interface let say 16-b data bus flash RAM, but i did not decide what brand I will use. Is this workable?? Will the timing requirement of the different brand of RAM causes problems?

I am still new in designing and selecting the devices and components by myself :p
