Why the water wave in a deeper region will travel faster than in a shallower region?

I would like to know why the water wave in a deeper region will travel faster than that of a shallower region.
Please help.

Dear
Pressure is much higher in deeper layers of any liquid that leads it to move faster than shallow layers.
Hope it make sense
